GO BOX

Some people keep a “go box” near the door during fire season to take with them in an evacuation. It could be a small plastic tote or a lockable, fire-resistant box containing

  • originals or copies of passports, birth certificates, social insurance cards, insurance documents

  • care card numbers

  • irreplaceable items such as jewelry or photos

  • flash drive with backups of photos

  • other items of sentimental value

GRAB AND GO BAG

A “grab and go bag” should be kept in your vehicle and/or at your most used exit for a quick grab as needed.

Include:

  • Food (ready to eat) and water

  • Phone charger and battery bank

  • Small battery-powered or hand-crank radio

  • Battery-powered or hand-crank flashlight

  • Extra batteries

  • Small first-aid kit and personal medications

  • Personal toiletries and items, such as an extra pair of glasses or contact lenses

  • Copy of your emergency plan

  • Copies of important documents, such as insurance papers and identification

  • Cash in small bills

  • Local map with your family meeting place identified

  • Seasonal clothing and an emergency blanket

  • Pen and notepad

  • Whistle
